South Sudan’s interior minister says about 37 traffic police officers were dismissed from duty to allow probe into corruption charges.

South Sudan’s interior minister says about 37 traffic police officers were dismissed from duty to allow probe into corruption charges.

Michael Chiangjiek told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the policemen are accused of receiving bribes from motorists in the months of May and June from across the country.

The minister said the relieved policemen are now in detention awaiting trial.

“This is a message to anyone who wants to commit such crimes. We think this is the correct measure and so we will continue as the police administration to arrest errant policemen so that we bring an end to such behaviors,” he added

He explained that intelligence officers are conducting surveillance in an effort to root out officers who use their positions to commit crimes.
