Local authorities in Panyijiar County in Southern Liech State have recently handed over 35 cows to their owners in Adior County in Eastern Lakes State, a local official said.

This comes after peace initiatives between the two neighboring communities.

Johnson Malual Achiek, the commissioner of Adior County, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the efforts made by the authorities of Panyijiar County to return the stolen cattle to their owners are an indication of peaceful coexistence between the neighbouring counties of the two states.

“I can confirm that we received 35 cows from Chief Gatjok Mabor Kai on 18 December. The chief came to Adior County together with 31 people,” he said.

He pointed out that the initiative to return the stolen cattle is in line with peace and reconciliation agreements between the two sides. “During the peace conference held in September, we agreed to live in peace,” he said.

The local official noted that the two areas are willing to steadfastly promote peace.

Separately, the commissioner said the security situation is calm in his county during the Christmas celebration. Achiek urged his people to co-exist peacefully.

“I call upon the people of Adior County to promote peace with their neighbors so that we develop our county. Also, we should support the peace agreement signed by the government of South Sudan,” he said.
