At least 33 cases of hepatitis B have been recorded in the Greater Parieng and the Greater Abiemnhom of the Ruweng Administrative Areas from June to October, health officials said.
The cases were recorded in all the eight counties in the Ruweng Administrative Areas, especially at the Parieng and the Abiemnhom hospitals.
The Ruweng Administrative Areas Health Minister, Achol Bol, speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday morning, confirmed that the 33 cases were recorded between June and October.
Hepatitis B is transmitted when blood, semen, or any other body fluids from an infected person comes into contact with those of the uninfected.
He said the disease could be transmitted through sexual contact and the sharing of needles and syringes.
No death has been reported from the 33 cases, Bol said.
“We are going to educate our people to go for checkups after three months, he said.
The Ruweng Administrative Areas government was working hard to finance the vaccination for hepatitis B at the local health facilities.
