A local official has said that cattle rustlers suspected to have come from Warrap State killed a 32-year-old man in a forest in Unity State’s Mayom County on Thursday.

Luka Chierey Kuich, the commissioner of Mayom County, told Radio Tamazuj Sunday that the Thursday afternoon incident happened when the cattle raiders spotted and attacked the man whom he did not identify.

The commissioner pointed out that the attackers, who he said crossed from the neighboring Gogrial East County in Warrap State, targeted a cattle camp that was on the move in search of pasture.

“There were cattle raiders who were moving from Gogrial East to Mayom County,” he said. “When they saw a man who was in the forest cutting firewood to construct a house, the cattle raiders shot at and killed him.”

“He fell into an ambush by criminals suspected to be from Gogrial East,” Commissioner Chierey added.

He said the raiders did not succeed in stealing any cattle and headed back to Gogrial East County. He condemned the attack and urged Warrap State authorities to cooperate with their Unity State counterparts in restoring peace and security in the area.
