Authorities of South Sudan’s Gogrial State said they have collected 31 firearms from civilians in Kuac South County this week.
The exercise was carried out in the presence of deputy governor Kuanyin Kuanyin.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, Kuanyin thanked local youths for responding to the call for disarmament. He pointed out that the disarmament exercise will help restore peace and stability in the state.
“A total of 31 firearms have been collected 29 AK-47 and 2 PKM from Kuac South area, and this is the beginning of peace. So I want to say that the citizens of Gogrial support peace and they equally want to implement the state of emergency that was declared by the president and they are ready to surrender all the guns they have so that they are given to SPLA Division Three,” he said.
He called on armed civilians who are still holding guns to surrender them to the relevant authorities in the county.
