300 Nuba families arrive in Yida exhausted

A group of 300 more families has fled to Yida refugee camp from the Nuba Mountains region to the north. They arrived today exhausted, according to a witness on the scene.

The refugees are mostly women and children. There are some 300 families with approximately 5 to 10 people per family.

More refugees are on the way and may reach the camp before sunset. They are coming from Fama in western Buram and Doloka which is farther to the north near Kadugli.

Aid organizations working in the camp are helping to receive them including Doctors Without Borders and Samaritan’s Purse. The camp population already exceeds 62,500, according to UNHCR data.
