The governor of Torit State has said three men considered the main suspects in an ambush along Juba-Torit road on Sunday that left a medical doctor dead and his son injured have been arrested.
The late Doctor Augustine Anthony of Torit Civil Hospital and his son James Taban fell in an ambush while riding on a motorcycle along Torit-Juba road. Taban, who was injured, is receiving treatment at Torit Civil Hospital.
Governor Tobiolo Alberio Oromo while addressing the press said that the three suspects from Torit West County have been arrested thanks to the cooperation of local youth. He said further search is ongoing.
“Through the cooperation of the community of Kurumi in Lafon County they are able to arrest three criminals who participated in the killing of Augutino,” he said.
“The Monyie-miji (youths) of Kurumi together with Monyie-miji of Opuo have come together they are still chasing the rest,” he added.
Governor Alberio said the incident is a criminal act and has no connection with rebels’ activities in the state, adding that investigations into the matter have been launched.
“It is a criminal act, this is an isolated issue. We will inform the public after the investigation and we will inform them what was the intension and what have been the intentions of this group ambushing vehicles along Juba road,” he said.
He further said the government has discovered the hideout of the suspected criminals accused of causing insecurity along the Juba-Torit road.
