At least three local youth have been arrested in connection with the murder of two police officers in separate incidents in Bor town of South Sudan’s Jonglei State over the weekend.

At least three local youth have been arrested in connection with the murder of two police officers in separate incidents in Bor town of South Sudan’s Jonglei State over the weekend.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Philip Ayuen Awur, the inspector of Bor Town police said one of the suspects accused of killing a policeman while escaping from Mangateen Police Station on Saturday in Bor was arrested the same day.

“The main suspect was arrested since Saturday while the other two local youth were arrested on Monday,” he said.

But after the arrest, while the police were returning to Bor town, they fell in an ambush laid by local youths which led to the death of another police officer. Two soldiers and one policeman were injured in the attack between Koch and Bor Town.

According to Ayuen, the local youth intended to free the suspect identified as Ayuen Ateny.

He said two suspects involved in the ambush have also been arrested and investigations are ongoing.
