The Lakes State authorities have confirmed the arrest of two soldiers from SSPDF’s Tiger Division, and a policeman suspected of killing a mother of nine-months-old baby in a road ambush at Pacong area of Rumbek East County on Wednesday.
The deceased was a passenger in vehicle travelling from Akon town of Warrap State to Juba.
The State Acting Information and Communication Minister, William Koji, told Radio Tamazuj that the government had apprehended the trio suspected of firing at the vehicle, leading to the killing of the breastfeeding mother.
He said the suspects were among the security officers deployed to Rumbek East, particularly in Pacong area, adding that the law would take its course.
“Whenever you do wrong here in Lakes State, you cannot go scot free. We have the law and it is unfortunate to see our organized forces involved in shooting at a passenger vehicle,” he said.
The suspects, Koji further said, will be investigated and held accountable by competent courts.
“It is the role of the government to make sure the wrongdoers are arrested and held accountable.”
Lakes State civil society activists applauded the government for apprehending the suspected killers.
