At least three people have been wounded and over 1,000 cattle stolen during a cattle raid in Cueibet of Lakes State on Tuesday.

At least three people have been wounded and over 1,000 cattle stolen during a cattle raid in Cueibet of Lakes State on Tuesday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the police acting commissioner of Cueibet Town, Machar Muorwel said the incident occurred in Mayath and Abieicok of Cuiebet county.

He said the police managed to recover about 1,200 cows from the armed criminals. He further faulted the cattle traders for reporting incorrect numbers of the cattle stolen.

"When these cattle traders came to us in the police station, they reported to us only 1,005 while the number of cattle moving with them is higher than this. Another mistake which they did, they hired armed youth criminals as an escort which turned to raid their cattle on the way and few SSPDF soldiers," Muorwel said.

The police officer added that the three people wounded in the raid sustained minor injuries.

Cueibet county secretary-general of Zeckariah Mamer Thokgor confirmed the raid and ordered the raiders to return the stolen cattle or risk being punished by the government if found.
