At least three civilians were killed in a road ambush in South Sudan’s Terekeka State last Wednesday, a local official said.
Joseph Lado, the state information minister told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the incident occurred when locals traveling between Terekeka’s Tinilo and Dwor counties were ambushed by suspected armed youth from neighboring Eastern Lakes State.
“Those civilians were ambushed by some youth from Eastern Lakes State who were pursuing cattle raiders from Terekeka. Some youth from Terekeka went to steal cows from the neighboring community. But instead those pursuing them killed innocent civilians,” he explained.
The local official pointed out the area calm despite the incident. He noted that Eastern Lakes authorities promised to arrest the assailants, while adding that they would search and arrest armed Terekeka youth who triggered the incidents.
