A motorcyclist and his two pillion passengers were knocked dead by a car belonging to Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC) Unity State’s Rubkona County over the weekend.

The traffic police’s director of highways in Unity State, Domai Dak Kai, told Radio Tamazju Sunday evening that the accidents happened on Saturday along the road connecting Riohriak to the Unity Oilfield. He identified the rider as a South Sudanese and his passengers as Sudanese nationals.

“A vehicle belonging to GPOC was coming from Unity Oilfield and going to Riohriak Payam hit a motorcycle with three people which was coming from the opposite direction and going to Rubkona Town,” he said.

The names of the deceased were not divulged by the police but Dak said the driver of the car is in police custody in Bentiu to help with investigations.

“The GPOC driver was speeding at over 100 kilometers per hour. I urge drivers to move at 30 or 40 kilometers per hour and they should respect traffic rules,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Mut Bol, a member of the Motorcycle Riders’ Union in Unity State, confirmed the accident which he said occurred on Saturday at 8:15 p.m.

“My condolences to the families of the three people who died over the weekend,” he said. “It is very painful for us to lose colleagues and their families will miss them but God takes them from our hands.”
