At least three people were killed, one person injured and several homes torched in an early Wednesday morning attack in Nyirol County in Jonglei state, authorities said.
James Bol Makuey, the Nyirol County commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the attackers they suspect to be from Greaer Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) also went away with 50 heads of cattle.
“This morning at 6 am, armed youth from Greater Pibor attacked Wunbil area of Waat Payam. Three people were killed and one elderly man is nursing serious stab wounds. The three dead included a 4-year-old girl burnt in a hut,” Commissioner Bol said.
Meanwhile, Brig. John Deng, the Nyirol County police inspector, also confirmed the incident and said calm has since been restored.
“Three people were killed including a woman, a boy and a girl. Three homes were also burnt to ashes,” he said.
For his part, Simon Peter Ajeny, the GPAA local government minister said no youth from his area would be involved in attacks in Jonglei State because of the ongoing fighting in GPAA.
