3 killed, 6 wounded in Yirol West attacks

Authorities in Lakes State have confirmed that three people have been shot dead and six wounded including the police chief inspector in Aluakaluak Payam Michael Mayor Malaak.

Authorities in Lakes State have confirmed that three people have been shot dead and six wounded including the police chief inspector in Aluakaluak Payam Michael Mayor Malaak. 

Acting Information minister Stephen Mathiang Deng told Radio Tamazuj that armed youth allegedly from Akot of Rumbek East County attacked Aluakaluak Payam headquarters of Yirol West County on Wednesday evening.

He said the attack was a revenge attack and tensions between the two communities remain high following the incident.

Mathiang noted that security forces were sent to the area to quell the situation and avert further attacks.

According to the minister, three of the attackers died in the clashes.

Rumbek East County police chief inspector Brigadier General Makur Dak confirmed that three of the attackers were killed but said the motive for the attack remains unknown.

The Executive Director of Alualuak Payam of Yirol West county Daniel Ichok Dhieu said those wounded are being treated at Mapuordit Hospital.

The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) coordinator in Lakes State, Daniel Laat Kon appealed to the youth in Lakes State to cease intercommunal hostilities and embark on agriculture.
