3 killed, 5 injured in Uror attack

At least three people were killed, five injured, and thousands of cattle raided in an attack on a joint Dinka-Nuer cattle camp in Pajimar village of Uror County, Jonglei State on Saturday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Gen. Moses Majok Gatluak, the representative for Uror County in Jonglei peace committee, said an unknown number of cattle were recovered.

“On Saturday afternoon, two cattle camps in the village of Pajimar were attacked by suspected Murle criminals. Three people were killed and five others injured. Several thousand herds of cattle were stolen, of which some were recovered but we do not know the number.”

He condemned the attack and urged the Pibor authorities to intervene.

Albino Gatkek, the acting Ayod County commissioner, said they received five men with gunshot wounds on Sunday, and that the wounded are currently receiving treatment at a health facility in Ayod town.

Meanwhile, Philip Thon Leek, a lawmaker representing Duk County in the national legislative assembly also condemned the attack. He said cattle keepers from his county were among the victims of the Saturday incident.

He warned that such recurring incidents may derail peace efforts in Jonglei.

For his part, Lokali Amae, a lawmaker representing Pibor County in the Greater Pibor legislative council, said: “I can not confirm the involvement of our youth in the incident. We will not also deny their involvement. But what I can say is that those are criminals trying to derail peace. For us, we are committed to peace.”
