The driver of the commissioner of Unity State’s Mayom County and a passenger were killed when their vehicle collided with a motorcycle, whose rider also died, on Friday afternoon in the county’s Mankien Payam.
According to the police, five other passengers, all soldiers, sustained injuries. The names of the deceased and injured were not provided.
The Director of Highway Traffic in Unity State, Captain Domai Dak Kai, told Radio Tamazju on Friday evening that the accident was due to speeding.
“The vehicle was moving at high speed from Mankien while heading to Mayom Town and it collided with a motorcycle, killing the car’s driver one passenger, and the rider on the spot and injuring five passengers inside the car,” he said. “The accident occurred on Friday at 3 p.m. because the driver was speeding.”
Captain Dak said the five injured passengers are receiving treatment at Mayom Hospital and that the commissioner’s vehicle has been detained by the police for investigations.
“After the incident, the first thing we did was to detain the vehicle at Mayom Police Station until investigations are completed,” he said.
The police officer urged the family of the deceased motorcyclist to remain calm as investigations are done and cautioned drivers against speeding, warning that it is killing a lot of people lately.
