At least three people have been killed while three others are fighting for their lives after they were attacked by unknown gunmen in Huwa village along the Chukudum-Kikilai road in Eastern Equatoria State’s Budi County on Tuesday.

A member of that state assembly for Budi County, Moi Isaac, told Radio Tamazuj that the criminals waylaid a vehicle carrying six people, looted, and sprayed bullets on them, killing two on the spot.

“That incident happened yesterday around one. There was a vehicle hired by one of the teachers taking his grinding mill to Kikilai. The vehicle went and delivered the grinding mill and on the way back, the driver carried some of the people on the way,” he explained. “Now when they reached between Huwa and Tikaladu, they fell in an ambush of these criminals who seem to have been from Logir. They stopped people, and it was only the driver who parked the car and jumped and ran up to Chukudum. They took everything, looted people the later on they spread people with bullets leaving two to die on spot.”

Isaac said the four who were badly injured were taken to Chukudum hospital, but unfortunately, the conductor of the vehicle succumbed to his injuries.

He claimed that youth from Logir were responsible for the attack, saying they had raided an unknown number of cattle from the area.

For his part, Peter Lokeng Lotone, Eastern Equatoria State Minister of Local Government and Law enforcement Agency condemns the ambush while commiserating with the victim’s families.

He assured them that the state government will bring to book the perpetrators.

“As a government, we condemn it seriously in the strongest terms and also we need to urge those whose brothers and sisters were killed and injured. We encourage them that the government is working to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to book,” Minister Lokeng assured.
