At least 3 people were injured in clashes involving Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Mahad camp in Juba, Central Equatoria State, on Monday, local officials said.

Mayen Kur Kuer, the camp’s chairperson, told Radio Tamazuj that the clashes involved two rival communities of the Anyuak and Murle who hail from and neighbor each other in Jonglei State.

“The inter-communal clashes involved men and women from the communities of Anyuak and Murle. More than 3 people were injured but the injuries were slight because they fought using their hands,” he said

According to Kur, a police case has been opened over the incident.

“A case has been opened into the incident. Such feuds among communities have continued for a long time. I have been reporting this to all relevant authorities but there has been no response,” Kur said.

When contacted, Major General Daniel Justin, the national police spokesperson, said he has yet to receive a report about the matter.

Mahad IDP Camp is home to about 2000 displaced people who fled their homes in Jonglei State following the 2013 war.
