Three foreign nationals were injured when their supermarket was bombed in Bor town, Jonglei state.
The three injured, said to be either Ethiopian or Eritrean, were sitting outside their shop in the evening when somone hurled a grenade at them.
Speaking to UN Radio Miraya, Jonglei State Police Commissioner Major General Thukul Ayom said: “Around ten o’clock in the evening, the Eritreans wanted to close their supermarket. Their generator was not working so they used a candle. When they came out of their shop, somebody and threw a hand grenade while they were sitting at the verandah. They were hurt – three of them, two men and one lady – and were rushed to a hospital. We went there so they are being treated now.”
Bor’s County Commissioner Mamer Ruuk who was at the Bor Civil Hospital to pay a visit to the victims, told Gurtong: “Those Ethiopians are now in the hospital. This morning I visited them and they are okay but one of them sustained severe injuries.”
“As a commissioner of Bor County I am condemning the incident. We cannot survive in South Sudan without foreigners. During the struggle we were getting support from the Ethiopian government and up to now they are still supporting us.”
Two months ago traders in Bor protested after four Ugandan businessmen were shot dead in the town’s market.
