3 female passengers injured, child missing after Duk road ambush

Two girls and a woman sustained gunshot wounds, while a child went missing following a road ambush by assailants in Jonglei State’s Duk County on Friday, authorities said.

Duk County Commissioner John Chatim Ruei told Radio Tamazuj that the victims were among passengers traveling to neighboring Uror County when their vehicle came under gunfire on the outskirts of Duk Padiet town.

“The incident occurred in an area called Mukpinyagany. The passengers’ vehicle was sprayed with bullets, leaving two girls and a woman injured,” he said.

“During the commotion, a child went missing. It is unclear whether the assailants took the child,” he added.

The commissioner accused armed youth, suspected to be from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), of carrying out the attack.

“According to reports, armed Murle youth were involved in the attack. We urge our GPAA counterparts to curb these repeated attacks,” he said.

GPAA Information Minister Nyinginga Okanho Kiro said they were unaware of the incident.
