3 dead in Misseriya attack on village south of Kiir River

Suspected Misseriya gunmen attacked Bier village south of Kiir River in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan on Wednesday morning killing three people.

Alor Dou Al Beit, information official in Abyei, told Radio Tamazuj that local youths in the village and surrounding areas managed to repulse the attackers. He pointed out that clashes resulted in the killing of at least three people and wounding of another from their side.

The official earlier had accused Arab Misseriya and South Sudan rebels of attacking the area, without giving details of the casualties.

Separately, Alor said a workshop was organized recently by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in the area to discuss good governance, voluntary repatriation, peaceful coexistence and dialogue as well as security in the contested territory.
