Three people died, and four others sustained critical injuries when the pickup truck they were traveling in overturned in Cueibet County along the Tonj South County road on Sunday.

The ill-fated vehicle, which was reportedly speeding, was heading from Juba to Wau when the accident occurred in Malou-pech Payam.

Rumbek Traffic Police Officer Daniel Majuec Mayek confirmed the incident to Radio Tamazuj on Monday. He stated that the crash happened due to a tire burst.

“The injured were rushed to Tonj South Civil Hospital for treatment,” Mayek said, adding that the driver and the conductor sustained minor injuries and were placed under arrest.

Mayek warned that many drivers continue to ignore speed limits, contributing to such accidents.

Meanwhile, Lakes State civil society activist Daniel Laat Kon also confirmed the crash, reiterating that three lives were lost.

Kon said the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) had documented the incident. He urged drivers to adhere to speed limits, citing the poor condition of most roads.
