At least three civilians were killed and three others wounded in an attacked allegedly carried out by government soldiers on citizen’s houses in Yei town on Monday and Tuesday, several eyewitnesses said.
An elderly man, who survived the attack, told Radio Tamazuj that the SPLA forces attacked their houses near a Cigarette Factory, located about 3 miles away from the SPLA base in the town.
“Those people came on Monday and Tuesday, we don’t know what happened, they killed three people among us here in Yei near the Yei-Maridi road, and there are three others who sustained injuries,” he said.
He pointed out that the incident resulted in the killing of at least two people on the spot and that a wounded woman succumbed to her wounds later at Yei Hospital.
The eyewitness added that three people were also wounded and citizen’s properties were looted after the attack, prompting about 10 households to flee from the area.
The elderly called on the government to put pressure on the SPLA army to stop targeting innocent people in Yei.
For his part, Santo Doming, deputy spokesman of the SPLA, denied knowledge of the incident in Yei town.
