Three suspects were on Monday arrested in connection with the killing of a South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) soldier at Achwa Bridge along the Juba-Nimule highway.
On Sunday, Sergeant Taban Erneo, an SSPDF soldier belonging to the Wounded Heroes Unit who was engaged in burning charcoal in the Achwa area was shot dead in Eastern Equatoria State.
Captain David Kasmiro, the acting inspector of police in Nimule Town Council said that some arrests have been made.
“Yesterday (Sunday) there was a person who was shot dead in Achwa, he belonged to the SSPDF unit of wounded heroes. He was shot dead by an unknown person but now we are going to bring his body shortly. We got a mobile phone near him but it did not belong to him. It is for somebody, we are still investigating and there are three suspects we have arrested including eyewitnesses,” Captain Kasmiro said.
“The real perpetrator will be arrested. All the three arrested are eyewitnesses. The incident happened in front of them. They were supposed to report about it but they hid it until the process went on that is why they were arrested. In the end, they were found to be present during the incident. They are still in Achwa but will be brought to Nimule police station here soon,” he added.
The deputy executive director in the now-defunct Pageri County, Koma Leonard, confirmed the incident but said he was waiting for detailed information.
