A herdsman was injured and about 28 cattle stolen when armed men raided a village in Nyirol County of Jonglei state on Thursday, officials said.
Nyirol County Commissioner, James Bol Makuey, told Radio Tamazuj that the early Thursday morning raid took place when the assailants stormed the Tut area.
“At midnight, the Murle have raided two houses and took 28 cattle and injured one person,” he said.
The county commissioner said the wounded person is being treated at an MSF-run health facility in the county headquarters, Langkien.
Marial Gatluak, the county police inspector, accused armed criminals from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) of involvement in the attack because he claimed the attackers were heading to Pibor.
“The attackers are not from here. They are Murle youth because our youth are currently pursuing them in the bushes towards GPAA,” he said.
For his part, Jay Adingora, the GPAA information minister, said he will not comment because he has not been informed about the attack.
