24 people were released after being arrested by security forces in Yei River State for allegedly coordinating with rebel movements in the region, the state governor said.
“I am aiming at a peaceful way of handling things. I would like to pass my message to the young people who were wrongly advised by others to go to the bush to come home,” said Governor of Yei River State David Lokonga. “Reconcile and forgive,”
Lokonga said that although some people in the area were unhappy with the government, reconciliation was crucial. Lokonga said the release of the 24 showed the government’s commitment to the peace agreement. The government is working with religious leaders to bring stability to society, he added.
Of the 24 that were arrested, 13 were from Kajo-Keji County, 3 were from Lasu Payam, and 8 were from Mugwo Payam.
