The Government of Unity State received 225,000 doses of Oral Cholera Vaccine from the National Ministry of Health and health partners to fight the disease outbreak.
Bany Makon, the acting director general at the state health ministry, confirmed to Radio Tamzjuj that the vaccines arrived on Thursday afternoon and that they will be given to people aged one year and above.
He said vaccination will start on 7 January in the four locations of Rubkona, Bentiu Town, Riariok Payam, and Bentiu IDP Camp.
“I am informing the public that the cholera vaccination will take place starting on 7 January but the awareness team will go around and they will be followed by the vaccination team,” he said. “The state government appreciates the great work and commitment shown by the stakeholders and we are requesting health partners and well-wishers to work with us to help the citizens during these difficult times.”
For his part, Mathew Ruai, the resident of Bentiu Town, said that the arrival of the cholera vaccines is timely.
“It is good that the population will be vaccinated because many people died of cholera in places like Mayom County.” He said.
