Northern Bahr el Ghazal state finance minister Akoon Maluil Akoon presented a budgest of 222 million South Sudanese Pounds for 2015/2016, a lawmaker said.

The chair of the assembly's legal affairs and human rights committee Garang Mawein said the budget was transferred to the committee for supervision and guiding. 

Mawein said money allocated for salaries should not be used for development projects and money allocated for development projects should not be used as salaries. Such misuse would be a "serious crime," Mawein said.

"It's a big budget," he said. "I think this year we will follow this budget in accordance with the regulations and laws. We will follow it letter by letter and number by number."

The state assembly deliberated on the budget but adjourned their debate for Christmas holiday, Mawein said.
