A 22-year-old man died by suicide in Hai Falata of Wau town, Western Bahr el Ghazal State, according to family members.
Noel James Martin, the deceased’s brother, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that his brother, Emmanuel James Martin, had complained of fatigue and body pains before his death.
“In the morning, I went to him in the garage and returned home without suspecting anything. He asked me for painkillers, but I didn’t realize he was unwell because he had been drinking the night before,” Martin said.
“I left him at home, and when we returned this morning, we found he had died.”
Samuel Rufai Hassan, an uncle of the deceased, said there were no known conflicts involving the young man.
“He had been drinking lately, but nobody had a problem with him. He often made decisions on his own,” Hassan said. “We don’t know why this happened.”
Police authorities in Wau could not immediately be reached for comment.
Suicide rates among young people in Wau have risen in recent years, with more than 10 cases reported this year alone.
The town has seen an increase in such incidents since 2019.
