Deputy Governor of South Sudan’s Warrap State Akec Tong says that authorities have arrested about 22 traditional leaders and youths from Gogrial East and West counties after the end of a reconciliation conference between the two sides.
Akec told Radio Tamazuj that the reconciliation conference was held between 17 and 20 June 2015. He explained that the conference came out with many recommendations to achieve peace between the two counties and establish a special court to investigate the incidents that took place.
The deputy governor, who also serves as chairman of a reconciliation committee between Gogrial East and West counties, disclosed that investigations of the 22 arrested people started last week.
The two counties experienced inter-communal conflicts which left dozen of victims dead on the two sides, as well as the destruction of houses before the authorities intervened to calm the situation.
