Pochalla South commissioner calls for unity during Easter celebrations

The commissioner of Pochalla South County in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) has called for unity and reconciliation among various ethnic groups as they gathered to celebrate Easter.

The county commissioner, Otho Okoti, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that unity in diversity was necessary for South Sudanese as the country struggles with a fragile peace.

“During our Easter celebrations, various traditional foods and cuisines from various ethnic groups, such as Chollo, Anyuak, Dinka, Nuer, and foreign nationalities, were served to communicate that diversity was necessary for peace,” he stated.

Okoti emphasized the importance of peace as a prerequisite for agriculture.

“As a nation, we have huge agricultural potential, and that cannot be realized if peace is lacking, so we want peace to boost agricultural production,” he noted.

For his part, Dominic Lino, a missionary with Favour Africa, said he was happy to have joined as a representative of the Equatorian community.

“The Easter celebrations went well. We shared messages of peace and reconciliation,” he said. “It is our prayer that this unity in diversity in Pochalla be emulated nationwide.”
