At least 21 people were reported killed and others wounded in clashes between the Savannah Movement from the Rizeigat tribe and members of the Ma’alia tribes at Khor Taan area of Yassin Locality in Sudan’s East Darfur on Sunday.

The Savannah group had defected from Sudan Liberation Movement and signed a peace deal with the Khartoum government.

Mualla Hamid Mualla, a relative of the victims, told Radio Tamazuj that at least six people from the Rizeigat including a former field commander in the movement led by Kerubino Kharif Hamoda aka Savannah were killed in clashes with the Ma’alia tribe at Khor Taan area .

Mualla accused the East Darfur government of plotting to kill commander Kharif and his group by using elements from the Agariba Ma’alia.

He noted that 15 people were killed from the attackers, six from the Agariba Ma’alia tribe and nine soldiers stationed in the Khor Taan garrison.
