More than 21,000 displaced people who have returned to Twic East County in South Sudan’s Jonglei state are facing shortages of food and tents amid calls from the local authorities for NGOs to intervene to help the returnees.
Dau Akuei Jurkuch, Commissioner of Twic County, told Radio Tamazuj that over 21,000 displaced people have returned to the area after the stability in security situation following the incidents of mid December 2013.
He said the returnees are living under trees due to shortages of tents and shelters.
“The displaced people are living under trees and lacking tents and mosquito nets. They need humanitarian assistance,” he said.
The local official pointed out that they are in need of food, mosquito nets, and other services.
