Twenty (20) primary schools were closed due to delays of payment of teachers’ salaries in Nzara County of South Sudan’s Western Equatoria state, according to Elias Box, county commissioner.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Box said teachers are complaining of delays of their salaries which forced the closure of schools.
He pointed that there were 21 public primary schools in the county, 20 of which were closed due to a teachers’ strike over unpaid salary.
Box added that there are three schools run by the church and one public secondary school still working.
The commissioner said the teachers have not been paid their salaries since April.
