The commissioner of police in South Sudan’s Jonglei State has reinstated 20 police officers two months after dismissal from police service.
The police officers are among 53 dismissed in May 19 for allegedly abandoning their duties in Bor South County.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Chol Atem, the police commissioner of Bor town said he reinstated the officers after an investigation committee found them innocent.
“According to a committee headed by Brigadier Johnson Thon, the director for operation in Bor that I formed to review the dismissal order, 20 officers were found innocent, 23 deserved the dismissal and 10 did not appear before the committee. We welcome the reinstated officers to the police service,” he said.
“Within 2 days if those 10 officers don’t come before the committee. We will consider their dismissal. For the 20 officers, I directed their respective units that they resume their duties,” “he added.
The top police officer pointed out that the reinstated officers will be paid their salary arrears.
