At least 20 people have died in fighting between clans in Bor South County in South Sudan’s Jonglei state on Friday, a local official said.
Deng Mabior, the county commissioner of Bor South, told Radio Tamazuj that the clashes erupted over grazing land ownership between Nyara, Manyayiel, Biong and Nyichak clans on Friday.
”The fight also spread to the villages on the east bank of the Nile,” said Deng.
He added, “Those who have been confirmed dead are 20, while the wounded people are 23.”
Commissioner Deng pointed that the wounded people were taken to Bor Hospital and Pariak Clinic for treatment. He added many people are still missing.
The local official claimed that the security situation returned to normal after government forces had been deployed to control the situation. “The incident caused panic among civilians, but the army is now managing the situation,” he said.
