Armed men waylaid and killed two women in the Wangkachuol area of Duk County in Jonglei State on Thursday morning, a local official said.
Duk County Commissioner, John Chatim, told Radio Tamazuj that the two women were moving from Duk Pagak town to Chindiir village when they were ambushed and killed by their assailants on a road in the Wangkachuol area on Thursday morning.
“Those are two young women in their early 30s. They were for a visit in Chindiir Boma but unfortunately, they were killed while on the way,” he said.
Commissioner Chatim added, “Also, yesterday (Wednesday) in Karisa village some bandits raided 38 cows after they were freed for grazing in the morning. Our youth have since been pursuing them to recover the stolen cows.”
The county commissioner pointed out that no one has been arrested in connection with the two incidents.
For his part, Major Majak Daniel Tuor, the state police spokesperson, said he has yet to receive any reports on the incidents.
“Those areas are remotely located. So, we have yet to get a report from our long-range radio unit,” he said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but cattle raids, accompanied by abductions and killings are commonplace and often reported among local communities in the region.
