Police in Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State’s Aweil East County have arrested two suspected accused of causing the death of a man identified as Dut Ngong Garang on 24th December in Yargot Payam.
Lt. Colonel Deng Chier, police commissioner in Aweil East County, said: “We had an incident in the area called Yargot. One person killed his uncle’s son called Dut Ngong Garang. I don’t know his age, but he is an old man, he was killed by Dut Bak Thiik, this happened on 24 December.”
“The reason was that they were fighting with one of their relatives and the late went to stop the fighters and the suspect was trying to punch down his relative but he missed him and hit the old man with his hand without intent to kill him but he unfortunately died. We are following the procedures and the two suspects were arrested. The suspects and one eye witness are facing thorough investigations,” Lt. Colonel Deng added.
Aweil East executive director, Abraham Wiik Awan, confirmed the incident and said it occurred after two family members of the Pahol clan had a dispute.
The accused are currently detained at Wanyjo Central Prison, the executive director revealed.
“The reason was that two persons were fighting and the deceased came to bring the fighting to an end and that person punched and killed him accidentally,’’ Wiik said.
