At least two people were killed and two others wounded by bandits in Southern Liech state last week, a local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the state Information Minister Nyuon Joseph Gatliah said a group of armed men ambushed a police convoy traveling from Leer to Takir County on 22 October.

He said two of the attackers were killed on the spot while two policemen sustained injuries in the crossfire that ensued.

Joseph pointed out that the security situation remains calm after the incident, but there are coordinated efforts by both government and opposition forces in the area to identify the criminals and hold them accountable.
