Authorities in Juba City have said that two people were killed when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a fuel tanker at Freedom Bridge on Monday evening.

One of the deceased was identified as Rashid Adam, a Sudanese casual worker, and the other as a Ugandan national.

The leader of the Sudanese community in Juba, Ashraf Isaac Ibrahim Kilito, told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that the late Adam is survived by a set of twins who reside in Juba.

“Yesterday (Monday) at around seven in the evening in the Gumbo area near the new bridge, one boy called Rashid Adam was on his way home when he was hit by an oil tanker and they both died on the spot,” Ibrahim said.

He said Adam’s body was still lying at the military hospital awaiting a burial permit.

“We are now going to get the papers from the hospital and police so that we bury him today,” Ibrahim added.

He said the driver of the fuel tanker fled the scene of the accident but that vehicle has been detained with all its relevant documents.

When contacted, Police Spokesperson Maj. Gen Daniel Justin said he was on his way to the office and he could not confirm details of the accident yet.
