2 killed and scores injured in Rumbek Center cattle raid

Two people were killed and several others injured in clashes between Rumbek Center County residents and suspected cattle raiders from Cueibet in Lakes State.

The raiders had allegedly fled with over 52 head of cattle from Bal-wau area over the weekend.

Police Spokesperson Elijah Mabor Makuac told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the situation was calm, except for some isolated incidences.

He said a group of notorious criminals from Cueibet County clashed with the Rumbek Center residents over the theft of the 52 head of cattle from Bal-wau area.

“These cattle belong to Maj Gen Dut Makoi Kuok, and during the clashes, one person was killed and another one was shot and wounded, and later succumbed,” he said.

Makuac said the suspects were still at large with the cattle and the security forces were pursuing them.

Civil society activist Angelina Adhel said they were hoping for peace and unity in 2025, adding that the cattle raids were like taking them back in time.

Adhel said the civil society was advocating peace and stability among the communities and appealed to the Lakes State Government to intervene in this situation.
