The authorities in Mayendit County of Unity State on Monday said two people were wounded and 18 head of cattle rustled by the armed cattle raiders from Leer county of Unity State.
Mayendit County Commissioner Dr. Gatluak Nyang said the cattle raiders wounded two people in Rubnor Village of Mayendit County and made away with 18 head of cattle on Saturday.
“The attackers are youth from Leer County and they shot and injured 2 people and raided 18 head of cattle in Rubnor village,” he said. “I have sent security forces to Rubnor and the security now is stable but fear remains high in the villages.”
However, the commissioner of Leer County Stephen Taker Riak, said he was not aware of the said raid.
“We have not heard such information. We have just heard it now from you but it is not true because the security situation is calm between the two counties.” He said. “We do not have any problem at the border and there was no raiding of cattle or someone shot reported to me. The (Mayendit) commissioner is just playing.”
He added: “As commissioners, we are supposed to inform each other if there is anything happening between the two counties but he has not informed me and we do not have communication with one another.”
Commissioner Taker said there is a scheduled meeting for county commissioners in a few days in Bentiu and hoped all problems will be addressed.
