Three women who went out of the UN Malakal PoC base to collect firewood recently are reported missing. Two fishermen have also disappeared.
The disappeared people are feared dead, according to local residents. Several internally displaced persons (IDPs) told Radio Tamazuj that they were mourning the disappearance of the three women and the two young fishermen.
They accused a militia supported by the government of killing them. Several IDPs in the Malakal ‘Protection of Civilians’ site (PoC) have been complaining about rising tension between different ethnic groups after the SPLA-Juba retook Malakal town.
The UN base in Malakal hosts mixed ethnicities including Dinka, Nuer and Shilluk people.
