At least two local farmers have been killed and one other wounded by unknown gunmen at Machar Akoon village under Majok Yithiou Municipality in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
The incident took place on Thursday. This comes a month after one person from the Missiriya tribe was killed at the same place in May and his tribesmen demanded blood compensation which resulted to the postponement a post-migration conference in May.
A member of Aweil East State parliament Hon. Santino Deng Deng Maluil confirmed the incident to Radio Tamazuj and said that the victims are from Akon village in Gogrial state and relatives of Major Yithiou town Mayor Yel Deng Nguel
“They were killed at Machar Akoon near Toc Chol at the farm of Majok Yithiou town mayor… these people are from Gogrial and are related to Yel Deng Nguel and were killed while working on his farm.”
Deng worried that his incident will hamper the farming activities as local farmers will fear for their safety.
Meanwhile, the Dinka Malual, Rizeigat and Misseriya communities’ peace coordinator Sylvester Dut Aluk alleged that the culprits were elements within the Misseriya tribe who are not happy with the peace agreement. “Well, usually we don’t generally rule out isolated cases because at the present I don’t advise anybody to take any revenge because this could be an act of two or three people who want to serve their own purposes,” said Dut.
“So I advise that all of us should be alert and should be put to wisdom at first so that when an accident happens we don’t rush into conclusions but rather we study the case and finally peace solutions so that we may continue with our peaceful coexistence,” he added
He revealed that the members of Dinka Malual and Misseriya are in contact to find the suspects and urged the families of the deceased to be patient while the case will be taken up by the government and peace committees from both sides.
