2 dead in Gok state cattle raid attack

At least two people have been confirmed dead in Abiriu County, Gok state, when gunmen suspected to have crossed into the area from neigbouring Western Lake carried a raid in the area last week, raising tension between the two communities

The Commissioner of Abiriu County in Gok state, Bol Madok Dhuol on Thursday told Radio Tamazuj that two people from Rumbek central County of Western Lakes state  have been killed by an armed youth from his county at Amolbut Payam  located at the South of the county headquarters.

Commissioner Bol added that he has arrested two Executive chiefs whose their names appeared as Mading Manyang Dier and Meen Gur Dut inorder to bring those criminals who acted unlawfully to book to face justice. He pointed out that he has informed his counterpart, Manyiel Riak Manyiel, the commissioner of Rumbek county of Western Lakes state. Bol added that those killed are cattle raiders who have stolen cows from Gok state to their state Western Lakes. But they were ambushed and killed on the way before reaching Rumbek and the cows are returned back to their rightful owners. While, Western Lakes State Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Daniel Dut Makuet said that the incident caught him by surprise, but he will share the matter with the state authorities on the way forward. Dut urged Gok state government to respect cooperation agreements which the two sisterly states have agreed upon earlier. The state government is fully committed to a peaceful solution to the problems “Dut added”.
