At least two passengers died, and seven others sustained injuries when two Toyota Land cruiser vehicles collided along the Awerial-Yirol West road in Lakes State on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, William Koji Kirjok, the acting information minister in Lakes State, confirmed the incident and said the wounded passengers were rushed to Yirol West County Hospital for treatment.
“I would like to advise everyone driving; please drive on the road carefully. Roads are busy with clearance and construction, and sometimes the roads that are under clearance can cause deadly accidents,” William said.
Meanwhile, Peter Makoi, a traffic police investigator in Lakes State, said the deadly accident was caused by the overspeeding of the two vehicles that were heading to the capital Juba.
Traffic accidents are common in South Sudan, often the result of the bad condition of the roads and reckless driving.
