At least two people died, and another sustained injuries in Cueibet County in Lakes State on Monday morning when a motorcycle carrying four people was hit by a truck transporting goods from Juba to Wau.
The police’s acting spokesperson in Lakes State, Moses Machuoc Bol, identified the dead who were on the motorcycle as Madeng Monypen Ater, 18, and Emmanuel Aluong Deng, 18, and the injured as Magoor Chol, 25, who is receiving treatment at Rumbek State Hospital.
He said the rider of the motorcycle, Ater Kokde Rok, and the driver of the truck, Mohammed Abdalla Mahmed, 43, were unscathed.
“There was a motorcycle carrying 4 people from Cueibet to Rumbek Central and it was hit by a truck after its driver lost control,” he said. “Two passengers on the motorcycle were killed and a third one was injured and is now receiving treatment in Rumbek hospital.”
Machuoc said the traffic police are investigating the incident and urged motorcycle riders not to carry excess pillion riders.
“The motorbike rider was carrying 3 passengers and the two who died on the spot were both aged 18,” he said. “Only one passenger and the rider survived.”
Meanwhile, Peter Makoi, a traffic police investigator who visited the scene of the accident told Radio Tamazuj that the truck and motorcycle are still on the scene and are seriously damaged.
He said that once the vehicle is repaired, it will be taken to the police station.
