Two civilians and two police officers were shot during a gunfight between police officers and national security officers in Tonj State, a local official said.
William Wuol Mayom, the state information minister, said that fighting erupted between national security officers and police officers in the state capital Tonj on Wednesday.
“Two women and two police officers sustained injuries and have been taken to Juba for further treatment,” said Mayom.
Mayom pointed out that gunshots were heard by the civil population in Tonj town but the government intervened immediately.
Clashes were more intense in Malith and New Tonj markets, he said.
A joint fact-finding committee was sent from Juba to investigate the actual cause of clashes between both units, according to the state minister.
