Two children who went missing after last week’s cattle raid in Tseretenya in Ikwoto County, Eastern Equatoria State, have been found.
The chief inspector of police in Ikwoto County, Warrant Officer Gabriel Arok Akom, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the children had returned but rustled cattle had entered the Lorema area of Budi County.
On Wednesday last week, two children went missing after a cattle raid in Ifuda boma. The local county authorities in Ikwoto accused Didinga youth from Budi County of the raid.
“The cattle are being driven by the raiders but the two children have returned,” Warrant Officer Arok said. “The owners of the cattle are still pursuing the attackers.”
Still, in Ikwoto County, a 19-year-old man committed suicide after quarreling with his mother on Saturday.
The local police chief said the late Morteo Lokelo took his life after a domestic dispute while he was drunk.
“The person who killed himself in Lorima village is called Morteo Lokelo, 19. They said he quarreled with the mother and that maybe he was drunk,” Warrant Officer Arok said.
A member of parliament representing Ikwoto County at the state assembly, Alphonse Muras Chacha, described the incident as unfortunate and urged the youth to stop misusing guns.
“Guns are supposed to be with people who are trained people and who are authorized to have guns but now people who are not trained and unauthorized and do not know the ethics of handling guns now take guns anyhow and just shoot themselves,” Muras said.
He added: “It is very unfortunate that a person committed suicide. It is not good to quarrel with your mother. Maybe the mother was giving good advice but you know sometimes these youngsters do not listen but I am advising them to listen to the advice of the parents and society very carefully.”
