Three children, one of whom was later rescued were abducted along Ibalany west of Torit town on Monday afternoon, police authorities say.
Torit State police spokesman Major Ochan Mathew Jacob told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that one of the children was rescued after police pursued the abductors but the other two are still missing.
“We received information that three children were abducted from the river side of Torit-Juba road bridge. When the CID and the police went to the crime scene one child was recovered and the two were not until now their whereabouts is not known,” he explained.
Mathew assured the citizens that the security organs are pursuing the abductors and will ensure that the children are returned and the culprits brought to book.
He called on parents in Torit to be more vigilant and accompany their children saying the cases of child abduction in the state are on the rise.
“The only thing we want to advise the parents that such situation is now becoming a problem so everyone needs to advice children not to move alone,” he added.
Mathew further urged both the local communities, as well as communities from neighboring Boma state to cooperate in addressing cases of child abduction in the region.
Last weekend, the police in Torit arrested two SPLA officers who were caught luring children with the aim of abducting them. They are currently in custody awaiting trial.
